Coventry Welsh 38 - Warwickians 7
Coventry Welsh played Warwickians for the first time in many years in an entertaining Warwickshire Shield game. The visitors began the game well and made the Welsh defend their line on several occassions. The Welsh gradually began to dictate the play and Luke Horan put them in the lead with a well taken penalty. Evergreen flanker Mark Kitchener thenused his forwards to sneak around the defence for the first try. The Welsh kept the pressure on and went into the break with a 23-0 lead as Ryan Hughes, Craig Browning and Luke Horan added 3 more tries. Warwickians, to their credit, tried to play an open game which belied theirleague position but could not cope with the Welsh backs as they spun the ball wide for Chris Holman, Andy Rowlands and Chris Neal to score. Warwickians played on gamely and were rewarded with a try on the final play of the game.
