Coventry Welsh 29 - Coventrians 3 (including 2XV report)
Coventry Welsh met Coventrians in the annual John Roden memorial game on Saturday and claimed the trophy in a hard fought encounter. The Welsh struggled in the scrum against bigger opponents but made up for it in their loose play with the forwards and backs combining well to create openings which led to Matt Carrier crossing for a try which Luke Horan converted. A Luke Horan penalty gave the Welsh a 10-3 lead at the break. The second half saw the Welsh continue to run the ball but a resolute defence and some over ambitious passing held the score down. Pressure eventually told in the final quarter as the Welsh ran in another 3 tries to Tony Joy, Matt Carrier and Russ Brown Jnr with 2 conversion from Luke Horan to give them a deserved victory.

The Welsh 2nds were far too strong for their hosts as they ran in 10 tries through Nathan Nour with a hat trick, singles to Russ Hughes, Darren Morgan, Clyde Jackson, Andy Gardner and Brett Horan. Russ Brown Snr scored the other two but after crossing the line for his jug buying hat trick promptly dropped the ball to the disbelief of his teammates!!!!!! Captain for the day Brett Horan slotted over 2 conversions from the touchline with 3 from the boot of Russ Hughes.
